Cemetery outside Old Kilcullen
« on: Tuesday 12 May 09 19:47 BST (UK) »
Today I found the little cemetery just south of Old Kilcullen before the Calverstown turn off.  I don'tknow what the cemetery is called. I found a well-tended grave of many of my ancestors including my ggrandad and ggrandmother, along with some of my grandads family.  I was wondering if anyone would know who looks after the cemetery so I can "dig" further into who paid for the plot, etc. Also, I might be able to find out if there are others buired there that are not on the headstone.

Try Kildare County Council. Old graveyards/ cemeteries are usually under care of Local Authority.
If you are in the area again ask in Local shop or Public house.
Nice to find a well kept cemetery.
Briers and nettles seem to thrive in neglected ones

This might help

If you click on the name of the Graveyard it will show you an image and description.

A map reference would also help, I'm scouring around Google maps trying to find it.

Contact the Environmental department of Kildare County Council, if cemetery is under their care they should have the records which may include the name of the person who purchased the burial plots originally. If they do not have the records you will have to find the local register for the cemetery and they might have the records. Not all cemetery records are intact and many records only go back to the 1940's.
