Just been told that his stint in the Middlesex regiment... he was stationed in the West Indies  ::) The Plot Thickens, I guess... but where from here? The will is certainly an option- perhaps mention of other children will give us a proper timeline of this man's movements... Does India have census records?

Does India have census records?

I don't think the India census will give you a great deal of info as, unlike the UK census, it's more of a headcount than anything else. It basically counts the number of people in an area, sub-divides into Male and Female, then sub-divides again into Literate and Illiterate. There are also figures for different religions - Hindu, Moslem, etc
