Westmeath Rifles (Militia)
« on: Monday 30 June 14 09:46 BST (UK) »
My grand uncle Daniel McEvoy was remanded in Kilmainham in 1892 on a charge of 'desertion from the Westmeath Rifles (Militia) ' - would anyone have any information on this militia? - I can't find any information on the net. Regards,

According to this site page 10 you need to look at British Military Records http://irishgenealogical.org/sites/default/files/memsepts/2009304.pdf

And it appears they are part of THE RIFLE BRIGADE (THE PRINCE CONSORT'S OWN)
See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mturner/cork/regiment.htm
Bottom of the page.

Thanks Sinnann, there is a wealth of information to follow up with that link to 'The Septs' journal which contains sources of information of the Westmeath Rifles.
