I am interested in this family (baronets from about 1623 until title extinct finally about 1825) because two other families in which I am interested (ALGEO and WHITELAW, landowners in Leitrim) were somehow associated with them, I suspect by marriage to a female Newcomen. However, published sources on the Peerage, don't give any grounds to substantiate this.
Both Whitelaws and Algeos use Newcomen as a given or middle name, as in Robert NEWCOMEN Algeo or NEWCOMEN Whitelaw, or NEWCOMEN Gore Algeo. I know of at least one Whitelaw-Algeo marriage, but that was in 1772.
This usage occurs as early as 1744, in Landholding database. So whatever happened, seems to have been before then.
No one seems to be actively researching this family now; perhaps because the male line seems to have died out when Thomas Glaedow-Newcomen died in 1825 (in Dublin). Still, I am wondering if anyone knows of any further sources to consult or how to get a handle on this.
All three families also had residences in Dublin.
