The house was built in 1870/1 and is listed on the 1901 and 1911 census returns, but no members of the family are listed on either.

see :

  Loftus Hall - 1911
  Loftus Hall - 1901

The owner of the property on the form B1 is shown as Lord Ely (1901) and the Marquis of Ely (1911) - which was the title given to the Loftus family.

Houses of Wexford

Dungulph Castle, Saltmills
Townland; Dungulph
The entire property was was granted to Henry Loftus in 1666 and the Loftus family (g.v. Loftus Hall) remained there as owners until 1912.
==================

Loftus Hall, Fethard-on-Sea (also Redmond Hall)
Townland; Loftus Hall, Hook Peninsula.
Dudley Loftus, eldest son of Lord Adam Loftus, archbishop of Dublin and Lord Chancellor of Ireland, was granted the lands of Kilcloggan about the year 1590. Subsequently the Loftus family acquired much more land in the area, including the manor of Fethard.
They were given the title Viscount Ely in 1756 and raised to the peerage at a later date.
Henry Loftus mover to Redmond Hall and an inscription reading, Henry Loftus of Loftus Hall Esq, 1680 still survives in part.
The Loftus family gave up the estate in the twentieth century.

Seanmac. Do you have the book "Houses of Wexford" as I would love a lookup for a surname/place? Katharine.

Splendid family, Cromwellians, of course, like all the best families in Ireland. There is any amount of information freely available in all the standard reference works, e.g. Cokayne's Complete Peerage, Burke's Peerage, Dictionary of National Biography, etc. etc.

Yours, etc.

No Sir Crispin Gaylord, they were Elizabethans not Cromwellians. OC didn't arrive until 1649.
