Sharmans lane, walford, herefordshire
« on: Wednesday 27 August 14 22:41 BST (UK) »
Anyone know if any of this still exists? Or any history of what the area was like, was it just one house or several?

I have a direct line of my tree that lived their for several generations being passed down the family it seem. Name: Thorney

I would love to get some images of what it looks like or what the area is like now, if it still exists. All I could find was a sharmans pitch, not sure if thst is the same place.

Thanks

Hi

1871 appears to have a second Sharmans Cottage.
Dwelling #82 has Mary Harris 60 widow and her son William 30

1881 also has a second "Sharmans"
Dwelling #141 has Mary Serigo(Serigs?) 67 Widow

Hi

Later census also has 2x Sharmans Cottages.  ???

So, as you have not supplied/confirmed any specific detail, is any of this correct?

The family were the Thorneys from walford, Ross and wye , as I replied to you in my private message. ( all the Thorney family in the Walford, herefordshire area are related)

You have posted the family at Sharmans Cottage in 1871, that is the address they are at for several decades as per the census and baptism records.

I believe I have found the cottage on google maps. It has Sharman Cottages on the front and is on Sharmans pitch in Ross and Wye.

Thanks for all your help.

I have them from 1841 to 1871 at that address and also baptisms prior to the census have residence  given as Sharman also. They were farmers, so the residence it appears was in the family for a long time, passed down to sons.

Hi Shevey

" as I replied to you in my private message. "

I was only trying to get a public confirmation so that anyone else who wanted to help could.
Otherwise it is just me rambling on [ as usual  :) ]

Did you ever find out what the "Pitch" means in "Sharman's Pitch"?
