Hi Jan

Have you tried your local library to see if they offer remote access to the Scotsman?

(You haven't updated your profile so I don't know if you are in Scotland)

Google's News Archive includes the Glasgow Herald, but it seems that the only way to search it is via a normal web search - and that didn't produce anything for me. Might be worth a try with alternative terms?

Two main google links to the Glasgow Papers for the 1900s:

* The main free Glasgow newspaper archives available currently to view on line are for the Glasgow Herald, issues range from 1800 - 1990. More issues continue to be added. The only problem is that you cannot search editions by key words, so you have to know what dates to check before starting a search. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=GGgVawPscysC - simply add year for search to see what issues may be available (insert a year in 'Date' box).

*Also, Evening Times - http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2mus-XyGPC0C

Unfortunately, unlike other sources for different periods, you cannot search by word/term. You have to search by specific date and issue.

Normally for this time, if you are searching for an event (dramatic: death/accident etc) you will likely have a date to start to searching from + a couple days.

Can you give us a name to work with?

For instance, a 1942 edition of the Scotsman reported that an 81yr old John Murray was killed when he was knocked down by a tramcar in Clydebank.

Or another example,  in January 1942, the Sunday Post reported on a Bus and Tramcar collision in Glasgow that injured two people.

A name may help us to help you further.

Sometimes if nothing turns up online, it can be helpful to email a library local to where the accident occurred and ask if they could kindly check their newspaper archives for you. Many hold local newspapers on microfilm and are often happy to oblige, especially if you give them a date to work with.

See list at left hand side of http://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/libraries/your-local-library/Pages/home.aspx albeit the one you probably need is on list at http://www.slleisureandculture.co.uk/info/23/library_locations (and they happen to have a local heritage centre with newspapers).
