Sorry I was unable to help.  maybe someone with MacKinnons will be able to offer assistance.  Have you checked Malcolm's grave in Australia, is Janet perhaps buried with him?  You have her death as 1890 - is that definite, or a guesstimate based on other facts.
if you can't find Janet MacKinnon in the Australian death indexes, perhaps she married a second time after Malcolm died?  You never know, she may be listed under a different name.  Maybe you will come across a marriage cert?

Good luck in your research! Here's hoping your brick wall starts to crumble  :)

Hi
Im not sure if anyone is still looking at this thread but I have been pointed in this direction by another very helpful member.
I am a descendant from the Nicolson line that has been previously mentioned.
Alexander Nicolson b1780 would have been my 4th great grand father, married Mary Beaton 1785.
I have been trying to find birth, marriage or death cert for them but have drawn a blank. I do however have quite a bit on the descendants down the line. would be happy to share if any good to anyone else.
on looking back at previous threads I could not place the Mary McClure mentioned married to Neil Nicolson...I have a Mary McClure who married Lachlan Nicolson (1/12/1835) her parents were Neil McClure 1788-1851 and Mary Macgillvary 1790-1855. Lachlan was the son of alexander and Mary.
I would love to hear from any distant relatives and would be great to find some photos.
thanks
Jackie Small

Hi Jackie, and welcome to the thread!  I have double checked my database, and like you, I don't have a marriage or death date for either Alexander or Mary, and I only have the one son noted as well - Lachlan, born abt. 1807 in Sleat, and died April 11, 1885 at Teangue.  But there must have been other siblings along the way.
Lachlan and Mary's Daughter Margaret - b. 1839.  married my relative Hector McLure Nov 1, 1881 at Sleat

hi
thank you for the reply..I wasn't sure if anyone was still looking at this. Its nice to be in contact with others with some connection. Lachlan was my 3rd great grand father.
from what I know ( I think ??) Alexander and Mary had 6 children.
Ann 1803-1883 wed Alexander Campbell 1827
LACHLAN 1806-1885 wed Mary McClure 1835
Catherine 1810-1880 wed Angus Kelly 1830
Norman 1812-1876 wed Jane MacDonald 1834
Alexander 1812-?
Angus 1813-?
Mostly all lived and died in sleat... there is a Nicholson Skye family tree on ancestry.
All also had many children whose names I have if you want them. ;D
If I find anything for alexander and mary il post it here.

I notice you have Coyle on your tagline as well, where are your Coyles from?  :) I have them in Donegal, and Duntocher/Clydebank areas.
