Moran-Clonmel
« on: Friday 14 October 11 10:48 BST (UK) »
An ancestor of mine, Catherine Moran, came from Ireland, possibly Clonmel.
She was born about 1789/1791, and at some point she met an English soldier, William Norgate, of the 11th Light Dragoons. She followed him to England and married him in Wyke, Weymouth, in December 1810.

It's been suggested to me that the 11th Light Dragoons were in Clonmel presumably about 1805/1810 and I wondered if anyone could confirm that for me? It would at least show they were at the same place at the same time, though how they would have met, I have no idea!

Any info on Catherine or the 11th Light Dragoons will be gratefully received!

Norgate:Hampshire/France.

Moran:Ireland/Hampshire/Dorset.

Have you seen this website ? http://www.britishempire.co.uk/forces/armyunits/britishcavalry/11thltdragoons.htm
It indicates that the dragoons left Ireland c.1811 for Spain and Portugal. I don't how you would get more precise information - maybe try the armed Forces message board?

Hi there,
saw your request while searching for my ancestors and thought you would like to refer to the following link.
If you have any information regarding Morgan Cashin (1805-1864) please let me know.
You never know, we might be related.
Best regards.
