Well, well, I must admit that I thought of St. Monans as soon as I saw the surname Reekie. That name has been well researched, and I know of a Reekie descendant in Canada who has been studying them for years. I knew some Reekies when I was growing up in Cellardyke, and many local people there have Reekie antecedents, e.g. Murrays and others descended from the marriage of "Venus Peter" Murray of Cellardyke to Janet Reekie of St. Monans in Victorian times.

More Fife Mackie's.

Mine was a Lilias Mackie - born c 1778 in Dunfermline (married a Thomas Smealls). Her parents were John Mackie and Lilias Henderson m 2 April 1774 in Dunfermline.

Am stuck at that point.
Anyone out there with a link?

I have an ancestor Helen Blythe born 19/3/1827 to George and Catherine in Fife.
Helen married, in Markinch 6/10/1846, Alexander Wallace who later died in Dysart Fife in 1850.
Helen then married a James Wishart and they immigrated to Australia.
Wondering if Helen would be related to your Blythes or if you have any information on Helen, Alexander or James?

Hi Anne.  Sorry, nothing on Helen Blyth(e).  Are you in Australia?  I live in Townsville in north Queensland.

I have a Mackie family originally from Markinch, but I know little of their roots. My relative Christian Wallace, b 1844 Carnbee, married James Mackie of Markinch. Their oldest child John Mackie was born in Markinch 1868. Then the family moved to Auchterdurran and James became a coal miner. They had several more children there.

The Mackies in my tree are distant relatives, but there's no connection with Markinch.

Hi JDB…I know your original post dates back but if you see this, I have info on Ancestry about a George Carstairs Dewar (1890-1891).  I'm not sure where the Carstairs name came to be in my tree.  :)

Hi, I am brand new here --  just arrived today via a friend and so I apologize in advance if I am addressing this message incorrectly.  I have a great many FIFE surnames I am researching, but as that side of the family is LDS, I pretty much know all the male sides and am striving to increase the distaff sides.  I noticed the following names detailed in the messages below, and I have a few of them in my mother's line:

Thomas CHRISTIE - born 1799, Dunfermline -- married Janet ANDERSON, Dunfermline
Robert SIM - born 1702, Stockmyers, Dunfermline, Fife -- married Janet KIRK, Dunfermline
John SIM - born 1727, Stockmyers, Dunfermline, Fife -- married Elizabeth STEVENSON, Dunfermline

and I do have a BEVERIDGE, but can't locate her on my Pedigree Chart at the moment -- sloppy printing! ☺

Happy if any of these complete or improve your lines and I look forward to hear from someone - anyone.

P.S.  I have been to Dunfermline and it is a beautiful place!  My Great-Grandmother, Maggie Christie HOGGAN was born there 1865.
