James seems to be the Son of JOHN Matson c 1777 and SARAH c 1783. Living in Hernhill in 1841 Census.
Christened 07 Sept 1823 to them in Graveney.

John MATSON Married Sarah SMITH, 24 April 1803,
Boughton under Blean, Kent

John MATSON b.abt 1777 could well be the John baptised in Faversham on 15 Jun 1777 to Christopher MATSON and Ruth SPARKS. Need to be careful though as there was also one baptised in 1779 in Challock to William & Sarah MATSON and the ages in the 1841 census are v.iffy. Having said this I suspect Christopher and William were first cousins so they point to the same place.

Perhaps if you check the 1803 marriage entry it will give clues in abodes/witnesses?

The Faversham MATSONs go back to a John MATSON/Elizabeth FOAD who lived in Waltham/Chilham in the late 1600s. Their children's names are similar to the MATSON merchants of Dover so are probably connected somehow. The earliest Kent MATSONs were mariners of Sandwich c.1500.

Thank you Supermoussi - all information gratefully received.  Christopher is an unusual name in this tree!!  My main line of interest in Kent is COUZINS and similar spellings, any info on that family who pop up all over Kent but cannot link them up at the moment.   Spelling of the name is totally dependant on the interpretion of the scribe.

Thank you NANNY WITH ROSIE

If you find John's burial entry it may well give an age. Perhaps there is one for him at Graveney in Q1 1842 or Q1 1860?

Hi

Is it possible to find the occupation of Henry William Matson? (born 1801 Rodmersham Kent)

I have found more of his children with links to India since I first posted.

Henry parents are John Matson and Mary,  but I can not find Mary who?

I have not found a link between the Matson family yet.

3 possible sources for Henry William's occupation are:-

1) the marriage certs/entries for Henry William's children
2) the death cert for Henry, presumably the one in Q4 1848 Milton Reg District
3) the 1841 census
