Edward Knight Lookup Please
« on: Monday 08 December 14 14:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi All.
Could some kind person please lookup the 1851 Middlesex census for a Edward Knight born 1799 Middlesex and his wife Emily born about 1800, there should be two sons Samuel born1834 and Edward born 1837 and daughter Sarah born 1842 all in Middlesex. I am hoping to find out where they state their places of birth and any occupations for them. Any help will be really appreciated.
Regards Dave.

Hi lizdb.
Thank you very much for your reply.
All I know about my relation Edward Knight is that he was born April 1799 and that he was baptized April the same year at St Clement Danes Church Middlesex his parents being stated as Edward and Sarah Knight, would this tie in for a birth in Long Acre?.
Thanks Dave.

Long Acre is a road in London, in the heart of what is called "Theatreland" amd I would imagine that is where he is referring to for his birth.
The church of St Clements Danes is not far away

I was trying to get a better link or maybe a map, but my computer kept misbehaving.

If you do some googling you may find more.

Hi 1851 census gives Edwards occupation as Licensed Traveller, Samuel as Painter and Edward Errand Boy.

Looks like this could be them in 1861 7 Maidstone Place Haggerston
Edward Knight 60 General dealer London
Emily 60 Retired Launderess N.Known
(turns out they are living next door to my 2xgt gf's brother) small world.

On line tree gives Emily Sampson married 1831 London

Deaths - Emily Sept qtr 1868  & Edward Mar qtr 1878 both Bethnal Green

There is a poor law removal order for Edward if some kind person will give you full details.

Sarah Dinah Knight married Albert Oldham 1860 Bethnal Green

Sarah Dinah Knight born 14/9/1841 bapt 10/10/1841 St.Leonards Shoreditch

The only thing I took from online tree was the marriage of Emily Sampson Family search gives this marriage as 8/8/1831 Old Church St.Pancras, so not sure if this is right as out of area?

Hi jennifer c/lizdb.
Thank you very much for all your help regarding Edward.
Edward had a sister Mary Ann born and baptized in 1803 at St Clement Dane Church and I am trying to find out if this is the Mary Ann Knight who married my GGG/Grandfather Joseph Heap(e) in 1826 at The Old Church St Pancras. On the 1841 census they were living in Bolton Lancashire from where Joseph was born with their children Emma and Elizabeth both born London and Sarah Ann and George both born in Bolton. Mary Ann passed away in 1845 in Bolton aged 42 which gives a birth date of 1803 which ties in with her age given on the 1841 census.
Family Search baptisms only give two possible birth/baptisms for 1803 in Middlesex/London area the other one being for a Mary Ann Margret Knight. So I think that I could be correct with Edwards sister being my GGG/Grandmother. Once again many thanks.
Regards.
Dave.

Not all Parish Registers are on familysearch though. So just because something is the best match on familysearch does not mean it is the right person!  would imagine there were quite a number of Mary Knights born in London or Middlesex within a year or two of 1803. It is a large area and not a particularly unusual name!

What you have found seems to hold together, so you may be on the right track.
Who are the witnesses when your Mary marries Mr Heap? Have you looked for Wills?
