Hi
I lived in Petham from 1960 to 1983. The Cottages you speak of were already gone before I was born, but I know where they were. As you leave Petham Village in the direction of Debden you would pass the old Chapel (now got a new house built on the site) and there is then a junction with a small lane off to the left called Watery lane. Between the old chapel site and the watery lane turn is where the cottages were sited. I believe they were pretty poor condition and the site of them was and is still prone to flooding when the Nailbourne rises. mention is made of them in a book on the history of Petham. I hope this helps. :D

Woodpecker has already told you more than I could, but I thought I would tell you that I also have ancestors who lived in Tar (or Tarry) Hall. I have always wondered if they were black weatherboard houses, and the name was a joke!
