Hulkes
« on: Tuesday 15 April 14 22:28 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am new to this and am trying to put together a family tree but have very very little information to start with - my grandfather was Charles Hulkes DOB unknown but was commonly referred to as 'CD' he married and had 4 children Mick, Derek, Annie and Andrew and lived in Hornchurch/Upminster in Essex although it is possible he originally resided in Kent.

Welcome to Rootschat
The policy on here is not to mention living people by name on here so I am presuming your grandfather is no longer living.
There is a Charles Douglas Hulkes born in the last quarter of 1908 you can send for his birth certificate using the following reference Blean 2a 916.
A useful website to use is freebmd.org.uk. This allows you to look up possible birth, marriage and death records and then order the required certificates to prove the family connections.
Good luck in your research.

Hi Rabiit24 and welcome  ;D

If you go to http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl ,  select marriages and type in Charles D Hulkes there is only one marriage listed showing his wife's name.  Then select births and type surname Hulkes and the maiden name of his wife, you will then see their children's birth records.

I didn't want to spoil your fun searching for yourself, but if you get stuck just shout  :D
Just trying to show how you can use FreeBMD.

Welcome from me to.

Charles Douglas born in 1908 was bap. at Seasalter Kent on the 26th. October 1908, son of Horace William and Amelia Jane HULKES, Solicitor's clerk.

The marriage of Horace and Amelia is on Ancestry in 1899, this shows their fathers and their occupations which will help you find them in the census. If you need help in accessing the marriage, just ask.

Hi there,

I am just wondering, if Charles is your Grandfather, which one of the 4 offspring is your parent? I may be able to help with a large chunk of your family tree.
