It was customary for the Methodist preachers to
stay at her home when taking services in the

Hi Dave,

There's a Sarah Wase baptised Waters Upton, Shropshire, on 6th June 1767; parents John Wase and Sarah.

Regards,
Maurice

Added: Waters Upton is about 12 miles from Madeley, Shropshire.
However, there is also a Madeley in Staffordshire, near Newcastle under Lyme.

Shropshire Parish Records are held at Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury; across Castle Street between the railway station and the castle.

Find their website here:- http://www.shropshire.gov.uk/archives.nsf

or contact them on archives(at)shropshire.gov.uk

Regards,
Maurice

Lots of Wases in the Waters Upton register. This marriage entry suggests that Benjamin Wase was also a minister.

thanks for finding and researching that for me much appriciated. My ancestors a this line seemed to be quite religious i know the peake side of the family was primative methodist preachers. Apparently my 4x great grandfather Benjamin Peake ran a night school in wheaton aston in the 1820's i wonder where i can find more out about this?

Hi there,
Only joined recently & came across your research.
Sarah  Wase/Peake was my 4Xgreat grandmother. I am descended via William, Thomas & Mary Jane Peake.

I too have been looking for her baptism without success. However the fact that she was John Fletchers God daughter interested me. It seems that he (Fletcher) regularly wrote to a William Wase of Madeley.
I found William's will online. He leaves some money to his deceased son John's son (also John) & to "each of his remaining children, Nicholas, Joseph, Sarah Peake (!!!) & Ann Ward".
I can only find baptisms for John 1767 & Nicholas bap 1789 but born 1770!. So it appears they may all have been baptised much later than normal.
Hope this is of interest.
