Joseph Steel whom was born in 1862 and married Elizabeth Irving is not the Joseph Steel whom was born in 1863.

Joseph Steel, born 1862 was the son of John Steel and Hannah Gair, not Jonathan Steel and Elizabeth Kennedy

A question, if the marriage for Joseph and Elizabeth cannot be found, how do we know her maiden name was Kennedy? Was it on a birth certificate?

Elizabeth Steele (1828-1899), mother of Joseph Steele died in Scotland while visiting her daughter Margaret Murray nee Steele. So I got Elizabeth's death record from Scotland's people and her parents were listed there as William Kennedy (joiner) and Mary Tweddle.
Murray, Steele, Kennedy, Elliot, Marrs & Whitesmith in Cumberland

Since my last reply, haven't had much success with finding Joseph after 1881, has anyone had better luck?
