Birks/Burks family of Stockton on Tees

Help finding a marriage  and Birth record / Edward Birks.
I am looking for information on Edward Birks born Ireland abt 1830-38,
he married Mary J (Unknown) of Stockton on Tees abt 1860s. Edward was a Sailor so doesn't appear on some of the censuses, his family are living in lodgings with the Mullan family, Stockton on Tees.His son was John William Birks born Stockton on tees 1864 died 1936 and he married  Annie Duff born Malton (Westow) 1868 died Stockton on tees 1961.I have information on them as they were my GG Grandparents. I am more interested/trying to find out more on Edward Birks, sometimes spelt Burks and Mary J(nee? )unknown. help please?

Wow, what an amazing quick response I can check this one, I have been trying to find something on him for ages! Thank you both. This sounds like it could be them especially with the Mary J. its the spelling of Birks  that has been the problem of finding anything.

In 1861 they were living Stockton on tees paradise street sounds lovely! No children so they may have just married. His name is spelt Burk on the census although my GGGrandad and GGrandmother were Birks
