brillianT, thank you Kay.  Have now found William Griffiths in 1861 in the same Carrehoga Village living with his sisters, occupation Grocer and general Dealer  Have not been able to trace William Griffiths Born 1865 after 1871 but at least we now know he existed and will continue hunting.

I haven't found him either post 1871 - but as you say at least he exists!   Given the family background I would think it unlikely he became a servant post 1871
