Boilermakers Strike pre WW1
« on: Saturday 17 May 14 17:31 BST (UK) »
I've just received a copy of the sole surviving last page of a letter written by my grandfather to his Aunt in London (who died in 1910). He had moved his family back to Scotland in 1906 to find work at his trade of iron moulder. This he seems to have done, at a Boiler Works in or around Barrhead where they were living. He expresses fear about the effects of a Boilermakers' strike on his own employment. Can anyone tell me please where I may be better able to date this fragment of correspondence by putting dates to the strike?

Thank you both for your contributions. Why is it that I never remember to look at Trove or Papers Past? This sort of item is just the sort of thing they'd report about ."the Old Country".
I have a handle on things now. Thanks once again.

The General Municipal and Boilermaker's Trade Union (GMB) might have historic records. Worth a try.

A good point, Redroger and thank you for making it. The question has, I think, been adequately answered by the link Adelbert provided (after a bit of extra hunting) but I may try the Union people for exact details in the future.

Thanks again

Alan
