I recently found out that my 3xgreat grandfather's aunt (Marjory or May Campbell) was a schoolmistress (sewing/needlework) in 1772 in Callander. In her petition in 1772 to the Board of Commissioner of Annexed Estates (NRS E777/174) she says:
They were pleased to establish a school in the said village for the instruction of young girles [sic] in sewing and other proper needlework And were also pleased to appoint the memorialist to supperentend [sic] and have charge of the school with a sallary [sic] of £10 SV /annum for her trouble.
I have looked through all the NRS catalogue entries for the Exchequer Records: Forfeited Estates records for Perth (E777) and a number of related entries and can not find any records where the Board of Commissioners appear to issue any orders with the exception of E702 (Letter Books) and E703/E704 (Treasury Warrants and Correspondence). And for these items the catalogue only gives the years for the letters in each sub-item.
So am I missing something or is going through the letter books the only way to find the records for the establishment of the school and the appointment of Marjory Campbell? I'm hoping that further information on Marjory Campbell, other than her name, may be contained in those records.
Thanks,
Arthur
