Question about Maknaight surname

I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the Maknaight surname is also known as McKnight? It seems very obvious to me but just want to back it up with some history if possible. Thanks for the help.

Yes. And both are forms of MacNaught. Spelling was very variable. Mostly the form of the name you see in records is whatever the recorder heard and wrote down, rather than something written by the person himself. Even if you do get an autograph document, the writer can spell his own name several ways on the same page.
