Annaclare Scotts
« on: Saturday 30 August 08 05:15 BST (UK) »
My grandfather Andrew Scott b.Oct 12 1869 might have been from Annaclare, with parents of either John Scott and Anna Carroll, or father Henry Scott & mother?. Not wanting to send for birth cert. until I am sure of parents. Any help would be appreciated

hi madie and welcome to rootschat!

griffiths valuation of ireland only has a george scott in annaclare, grange.

however there is a henry scott in salters grange, grange, and john scott in

carganamuck and ballymackilmurry,grange.

something at the back of my mind says i've seen your names somewhere

before so it might be worth a search through the boards.

is there a reason you think andrew was born in annaclare?

RE: ANNACLARE SCOTTS; A COUSIN VISITED IRELAND IN 1999 AND FROM THE FAMILY'S DESCRIPTION OF THE HOME'S LOCATION "NEAR THE ROAD TO PORTADOWN IN ANNACLARE" SAW A HOME, AND SPOKE TO CURRENT OWNER WHO CONFIRMED IT WAS PREVIOUSLY OWNED BY THE SCOTT FAMILY. THE CURRENT HOME WAS BUILT IN 1830. ANDREW SCOTT'S DEATH CERT AND IMMIGRATION INFO ONLY REFERRED TO BEING FROM ARMAGH. I UNDERSTOOD HIS FATHER DIED WHEN HE WAS 13, AND MOTHER REMARRIED TWICE AFTER THAT, SO I THINK WITH LITTLE REAL INFORMATION TO GO ON I AM JUST TRYING ANYTHING. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

I can’t add a lot but can tell you that Annaclare is the right place for Scotts & they were farmers. They were known to my family up to the 1940s, maybe later & in my research in the locality I have come across the name a lot.

For research in that area the most likely church for baptism records would be Kildarton but unfortunately to the best of my knowledge they are not transcribed anywhere & are not filmed by the LDS or in PRONI so the only way to see them is to visit the church. Salters Grange is another possibility as is Loughgall with a small likelihood of Kilmore, all of these are available through the LDS family history centres.

Good luck.

Thank you Mary, I also found this info, its funny how the names seem right, but I believe John died when my grandfather was about 13, and apparently was still in Ireland in 1882. I appreciate the help.

Thank you creaney,
this is good information. I heard Andrew's father was a farmer in Armagh so this would seem the right direction. At some point I will come to Ireland if I can't get my search figured out through the LDS, the internet, and nice people like yourself.
