Does anyone have any information on campaigns carried out, in France, by the Machine Gun Corps during Jan/Feb 1916.
Any help appreciated.

The MGC fought all over the Western Front. They never fought as a Corps they were attached to Divisions.

I had an uncle who served with the Gordon Highlanders and was seconded to the MGC. Where would the Gordon Highlanders be fighting in Jan/Feb 1916?

No details of his battalion although he signed up in Kilmarnock at the outset of WW1 and went to France with the expeditionary force. He was seconded to the MGC and died on 2 March 1916. Initially it stated on his service record that he died from self-inflicted wound although there was a line scored through this.
The military court in May 1916 changed this to Suicide while temporarily insane.
  Service number was 17450

He couldn't have been in very long as his service no. indicates he went in early 1916.

Doe's it not tell you the MGC company number on the records?
Also would that service number be his MGC service number or not.?

I do have the service return for 17450 Pte Ferguson, David aged 21, born Scotland, Died 2. 3. 16 in France, died of wounds (self-inflicted). This was the service return for the Machine Gun Corps. He might have had another number for the Gordon Highlanders. Not sure if this applies.
I have previously seen the court findings but cannot remember where I found them. This stated that his death was suicide (temporary insane).
Had a look for the service card but must have lost it sometime ago.

Can anyone tell from these numbers when this man enlisted? He is my cousin's ancestor not mine. My cousin has just started to research him. Border Reg 2292. Machine Gun Corp 148371. Thank you.
