Hi again.

I have pictures of the gravestones for East Haddon.

Some are in rows close together and impossible to read.

Others are totally illegible.

I can not see one I am afraid for a small child surname Smith.

Oh, thank you for looking, Sandy.  I think a headstone would have been out of reach of their pockets as he was a footman (I think the mother had been in service, too).

You don't have a headstone image there that mentions a "Henry Smith" do you?  He would have been baby Charlotte's grandfather and might still have lived in East Haddon (a very long shot, this one!).

No I am afraid there isn't.

There is one for a William Smith and his wife.?

Maybe when the weather is better I can go and re-take them with my new
camera but don't hold out much hope of the images being clearer.

That wouldn't be Charlotte's father as he died and was buried in Newbury, Berkshire but it might be a relative of his - any information would help with this family!

Maybe you could help me.  :)

I went over again to East Haddon this afternoon as we had glorious sunshine.

At least 6 people came and took a photo of the Church. !!!!!!! whilst I was there.

Graves are in a worst condition as so many covered in ivy.

I have got some of East Haddon P.R. here and on the baptism of Charlotte
I can not read the father's name.

There are quite a few Smith families in the village, most are labourers and one
is a Farmer.

How do they link in with Charlotte's parents who are Harmon ? and Charlotte ?

It really was good to see the sun today - even better to get outside without being rained on!

I have sent you a PM which should clarify matters - it's a bit long-winded to post here!

Morning Rachel.

I have been looking at a few trees on Anc* for the family.

One has a second marriage for William Harmond Smith.

Doesn't help with your request though.

I would contact  the Towcester Register Office
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0y2j/
to ask if they have a death in the Sep Qtr for a Charlotte Smith with all the known
details.

A good suggestion - I'll give Towcester a try.

I'll check out the tree - though, if it's the one I have come across it via another line, the errors in it are many and various ...

Thank you very much for the trouble you have taken with this - "Smiths" are not easy!  If I shake anything out of this I will let you know!

Rachel

(Not knowing which "Haddon" is irritating!  East and West Haddon and the other, tiny, "hidden" Haddon on the Northants/Hunts border.  I went there once and they kindly dug out the original, undeposited Parish Registers for me to check - just in case.)

Byfield though.
