 Just a thought about Reverend.

In the 1851 Census he said he was a 'Curate' at Nairn Scotland so I presume that Reverend was 'of the cloth' as it were.

Also I wonder if he had taken up that position and then he died before he could actually get there.

Hi, Judy, the burial entry I quoted was from the Parish Register not the Bishops Transcript. The burial is recorded having taken place on 30th June 1851.  I looked at the Cheshire Wills and there does not appear to be one for him proved in Chester. He may have left a Will but it was proved somewhere else.

Thank you Cath.
That clears up whether it was a BT or an original PR.

Will look in the Westmorland Wills.

Please can any one help with the deaths of some of Williams children to see if they are in the PR's and see what it says about their parents if anything.

Laura c1835 in France Died 1850 Registration - Wirral Cheshire
Margaret Isabella c1840 Ireland died Jun 1853 Birkenhead buried St Marys 27 June 1853
Catherine Smith Richardson c1841 died 1861 Birkenhead
William Henry b1846 Wirral died 1846 buried St Mary's 27 Dec 1846
Robert Richardson b1848 Claughton died 1891 Birkenhead.

I am finding this research so sad that so many of them died so young.

Thank you

Judy

Hi, Rarely do you find the names of the parents on Burial Registers and this seems to be the case with all of them.
Catherine however appears as buried in Bebington and of Rock Ferry, is she the same one as yours?
There is a record of a Richard in 1892 aged 5.5 years and a Jessie Richardson aged 2 buried at Eastham. I am not sure that either of these are yours, because in the margin on the right is recorded "ship and what looks like either Laural or Zaural" It looks like they were from a sea going vessel and there are docks at Eastham.
I will look at the Baptisms of those born in Birkenhead and these usually show the parents.

Thank you for looking. Pity it doesn't give parents!

The last I see of Catherine Smith Richardson is in the 1861 Census she is living at what looks like 5 Kenson Terrace Birkenhead. Then her death registration Q3 Birkenhead 1861

Thank you for offering to look up the Baptisms.

Most grateful. On Family Search some of them are baptised much later than their registered birth.
Catherine & Robert in 1851 in Bidstone and Eliza in 1846. At Holy Trinity.

Odd isn't it if he was a Curate?

Hi, I have found the following baptisms
Catherine Smith Richardson daughter of William and Eliza, abode Claughton baptism at Bidstone Church (Bidston) nowadays, on 30th June 1851
Interestingly her brother Robert is recorded as being baptised on the same day.  Their father William is described as a Clergyman.
William Henry, again same parents baptised on 4th July 1848 abode Birkenhead father School Master.
Also Eliza Richardson daughter of same parents baptised Birkenhead, father School Master and on the same day, 10th July 1846 William Henry Richardson.  In the right hand margin the date of birth for Eliza is recorded as August 23rd 1843.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much for taking time to look these up for me. Very useful

So I wonder if he trained to be a Clergyman after 1848 or if he was one before that and a school master too.

Oh! Dear! I have just noticed something.

The day Catherine and Robert are baptized 30 June 1851 is the day their father William was buried.

Isn't that sad.
