Evening
On a standard wedding cert, Column 6 talks about a regular or irregular marriage. What does that mean?

A regular marriage was one performed by the minister, preceded by the proclamation of banns three times in the parish kirk.

An irregular marriage was probably any wedding that didn't conform to this norm.

The best-known type of irregular marriage is marriage by declaration in the presence of two witnesses. A couple who did this were legally married; there was no legal .requirement to have the ceremony performed by a minister.

See http://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/socialpolitical/research/economicsocialhistory/historymedicine/scottishwayofbirthanddeath/marriage/ for a much better account of irregular marriages.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
