Mary Brierton Born Ireland 1845
« on: Monday 28 July 14 12:31 BST (UK) »
HI All,
I have Mary Brierton Born Ireland 1845
From her marriage certificate 1865 Durham she is 20 years and father is James Brierton deceased coal miner, I do have all information coming forward but need help please to find her birth, mother or siblings and when she came over from Ireland.  I have her in 1871 Northumberland she marries 1865 so I would imagine she could be in England in 1861 but cannot find her. Any help most appreciated.

There’s a James Brearton, coal miner, in the 1861 census at Prudhoe Castle, Hexham. He’s there, aged 56 with wife Mary, also 56 and son Jas aged 20. All 3 born in Ireland, and he seems to have died in Jan – Mar 1862. So that seems to broadly fit the information you have.

There's little or no coal in Ireland and so for Mary's father to be a coal miner, he really has to have been living in GB.

Thank you for your quick response, I did spot that one too much of a coincidence for it not to be but ...... Mary is not there.  :-\

If you search for Briertons on the Griffiths Valuation part of:

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/

you get 26 returns many of whom are in Tipperary not far from the site of the Ballingarry mines - see Conaty Calling post.  One of these is James in the townland of Tullowmacjames in the parish of Templetouhy.

Hi Glensman,
That ties up nicely, Tipperary . :) Thank you, such a shame they didn't give an age.

Perhaps worth a post on the Tipperary board.
