Thomas and Ann Jane Smith in the 1901 census'
« on: Saturday 28 June 14 13:08 BST (UK) »
Hello, im having trouble finding my great x5 aunt and uncle in the 1901 census'.
They married 25/01/1900 in Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire. Ann was born in 1840 Llanfyllin but claimed to be 12 years younger on her marriage cert! Thomas' age on the cert would put him as being born in 1842, but whether this is true i dont know!
I cant find any deaths, but with being smiths this was never going to be easy!
Im on Findmypast and have struggled using their new(ish) search tools.
Would someone please see if they can locate them in either of the census'?
Regards, Tom

Does the cert give more details about Thomas such as occupation?

He was widowed and a farmer when he married Ann (never been married herself). Ive managed to find Ann in Baschurch Shropshire in 1911. She was a servant at this time and widowed, so its just the 1901 census im having no luck with now!

I can't see them in 1901 sadly.  They don't seem to be still living in Llanfyllin.

I think the information provided for that census must have been off slightly or perhaps its been mistranscribed, which would explain why i cant find it?
I cant find Ann (when she was still a Jones) in 1891 either!

Edit -Was she the niece of the farmer at the same farm in 1881?

Yes thats the right one!! Thank you for the help. It seems she liked to fib about her age a bit!
