, Thanks for that Tom ,

I found my grt grt grt grnd mthr Susanna Spuritt in 1841 census living in mill st , occupation  grocer , she was then aged 60, widowed with a daughter Ann aged 15yrs and a son Robert aged 3yrs , these would be my grt grt grndmthrs Sara's siblings,.

I hope you don't mind me joining into this conversation but I am new to forums.
I have a Robert Spuritt born Oxford married a Susanna Parkhill  from northumberland. 1782. 1854.he was in the militia in Hexham, moved to Cornwall where Jane was born then moved back to Hexham.

This would seem to be the Robert who died in 1880

would I be able to access the journal ?

                     Regards Pauline

Hi,Robert Spurrit born 1780 in Oxford died 1853 in Hexham, not 1880,ive searched ancestry
records and cant find a marriage to a Susanna Parkhill, can`t even find a birth for her in Hexham.
Ive seen trees saying she was Roberts wife, but no records.no rcords on family search for then
in Hexham,as records start to late.may have to go through all their records for Northumberland
to try and find it.what fun this famiy tree buisness is sometimes

Hi,the spelling of the name changes alot over the years,i email a relative who still lives in the
Oxford area and still spells it Spurret,we think that when Robert moved up to Northumberland
the name changed because of his accent, plus when cencus forms were filled in it wasnt always
the head of family who filled them in,as lots of people couldnt write.which leads to alot of changes
in the spelling of some surnames.Il look into 1851 cencus.will keep searching for Susanna.
cheers,Lynne

Hi Lynne did you find what you are looking for. 1841 census shows Robert Spirit is a Gardener. From Wooton Oxfordshire. His wife Susan Spirit. From Hexham. ( Susan Parkhill )they must be who you are looking for

Happy New Year Lynne (and also our other new Spirity friend!)

Remind me what led us to Parkhill as Susan's maiden name.  I know that Elizabeth Q suggested it but I can't remember if we found what led her to that conclusion.  Do you remember?

Best wishes, Rob
