Fermoy New Barracks
« on: Sunday 21 September 14 12:14 BST (UK) »
Would anyone know if there are any remains of the Army Barracks called 'New Barracks' or the former town Railway Station remaining in Fermoy, Co Cork?

According to this site http://forum.irishmilitaryonline.com/archive/index.php/t-12152.html
It's a pitch and putt course now only some of the perimeter wall remains.

If you use the Report to moderator button and ask for this thread to be moved to Cork you should get a better response.

Thanks everyone for these teriffic pointers. I'm slowly building a picture of where to go in Fermoy to see visible relics of the old days; in advance of my visit in November. :)

Only boundary walls stand of the new barracks, its now the pitch & putt and gaa grounds. The old railway station is now a funeral home and the only train tracks left (and is unsafe) is the viaduct locally known as the redbridge. There is a fermoy facebook page with some fantastic historical pics. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fermoy/241844877097?sk=timeline

Thanks everyone for the information provided. I visited fermoy in November 2014 and had the most amazing trip. I fully explored all the sites I was interested in close to Fermoy including Moor Park and Kilworth sites. The people I encountered were all incredibly friendly and helpful and I aim to return soon to complete my research.
