Missing burial records
« on: Tuesday 18 June 13 10:26 BST (UK) »
If anyone comes across the burial records for St. Michael's in Linlithgow in some dusty second hand book shop, can you please hand them in. ;D

I had run out of ideas on finding exactly when my 3xG grandparents died. They are buried in St. Michaels and with them having a stone thought surely the burial would have been recorded. The stone itself is too worn to make any dates out. A call to the West Lothian Local History Library revealed the reason, the burial records for 1829 - 1855 are missing. So I suppose that's it. I will have to put died between 1841 - 1851 for one and died between 1851 and 1855 for the other.

The folks at WLLHL were very helpful on this and on other enquiries I've made so I'll add a link just in case there's anyone doesn't have it.

Hello Seoras,

Don't know if you have looked at this site. It has St Michael's Churchyard.

Hi terianne, I didn't put names as I was just making a comment really. Anyway I have one of them now as she died two years later than I thought. The other however falls in the period of the missing records but it is for John Pate or Peat who died sometime between 1841 and 1851 in Linlithgow. I have what's left of the MI and have seen the grave, just don't know when he was put there.

Mags, thanks for the link.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Cheers Forfarian, I wondered why I wasn't getting anywhere when I clicked on it. He is on there sure enough, along with wife Isabella but no dates. I know when Isabella died however. It also mentions son George but as far as I know he isn't buried there but had the stone erected. He may even have made it, he was a mason.

Thanks Forfarian, you are being kind thinking it was a "slipped finger" - some slip across 5 or so keys!
Glad you found info Seoras. Got your PM, will reply.
