East Arcade, St Nicholas Market, Bristol
« on: Wednesday 02 July 14 20:05 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if anybody had any idea where East Arcade was in, or near St Nicholas Market Bristol in 1928. My great grandfather's brother was a poulterer here, however I cannot find it on any map, or diagram of the market, despite the Kellys Street Directory for 1928 listing it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Dale

I imagine it refers to the arcade which leads from the market out into High Street.  None of the maps I've checked give it a name, but it would seem to fit the bill

Thankyou for checking, and for your thoughts. It is interesting, because the Kelly's Directory entry says, 9 East Arcade, Market, High Street, Bristol.  It does seem likely that it is as you say.

Correct!

I can remember a butcher's on the left-hand-side on entering from High Street, and a florists on the right-hand-side!

There's a modern floor-plan here: http://www.stnicholasmarketbristol.co.uk/index.php/en/floor-plan
But it shows the south side at the top?!

I think East Arcade is what is now called the Glass Arcade?
