I actually typed another reply to you but I think I must have deleted it by mistake.

That Roberton Genealogy link will be very interesting to read through.  I've just glanced through it so far.  The deBaird comments jumped out.

I've been awake all night and am going downhill, so I think it's time to sign off and come back to this later.

Once again, cheers for these links.  Plenty to get my teeth into.

The national Library of Scotland maps website [http://maps.nls.uk] will give you free access to old maps of the area. You should find the places there. Try the "Series Maps" option first and select the earlier Ordnance Survey 6"/mile map. There is a slider bar which allows you to move from the old map to a modern map or satellite view. Roy's military map (Lowlands) will show you the area in the 1750s.

Cheers GR2.
Was one of the places I looked initially.  Problem was I didn't really know where to look or what to look for.
Have since found Startup Hill on Roys. assuming it's the only one.
Still no joy with Cafold or whatever it is.

In the 1858 EK map there is a Tuphall in the centre of EK. Maybe by then the 'Star' had dropped from the name

Interesting Sancti.
Would seem a much more likely location than way down South East.
I'll look into that.
Cheers.

Dave

Added:  from Scotlandsplaces...."TUPHALL  An old Building occupied by cottagers and the property of Miss Stuart of Torrance."

I'll have a look around geograph and canmore and such.

Dave, a Google search for Tuphall East Kilbride gives this

[ Proprietor ] Alexander Patterson East Kilbride Andrew Baird Platthorn. 017.05. A comfortable cottage occupied by the proprietor John Patterson. TUPHALL.

http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/digital-volumes/ordnance-survey-name-books/lanarkshire-os-name-books-1858-1861/lanarkshire-volume-25/79

It looks to have been situated near the present day Platthorn Road

Can anyone assist in confirming these place names and perhaps locate them on a map for me please.  I've been searching for ages with no success.  Unsure whether they are the names of areas within the parish, or perhaps names of farms, estates or whatever.

The one that looks like Startyshall is from an OPR birth dated 1784, the other that looks like Cafold is from 1794.

The subsequent marriages and generation of children were mostly located in Bothwellhaugh so no real clues from that.

Thanks
Dave

This post is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws. Unfortunately my preferred method of writing (Parker Quink on Basildon Bond) cannot be used.

On the link provided by Sancti, it shows 3 properties.
Platthorn, Rosemound and Tuphall

The house named Rosemound still exists.

It's the oldest house in EK and was recently fire damaged
It sits in Roxburgh Park, just off Platthorn Road.

What does the complete "Cafold" text say

Nothing other than what I posted.  A simple one liner on an OPR birth.
The name of the child, the father then "...of Cafold"

Thanks everyone for looking.  Appreciated.
