Hi Daniel, thankyou for your reply, I know my late fathering - law, Dr William Keith Laing, born 1916, in either Keith or Elgin, he's the one on the far right on the photo, had really lovely memories of his stay's at Skenepark,
I would be very grateful to except your offer to see picture's of the house ,
Keith as he was known, had a brother Sandy who became a vet, Pat another brother and Jean and Betty his sister's,  I am looking more into Laing side of the family for my grandchildren two little Laing's  :)   Eilleen.

lots of the other members of the family died at Weston House , Moss Street, Keith
I remember that Weston House belonged to a Mr Laing. It was turned into a care home in the latter decades of the 20th century but is now empty and boarded up.

Eilleen,  I think I found how.

Skenepark was built on a land owned by Captain Gordon of Cluny by George Skene (1734-1823 died at Skenepark). The original name of the land was Knocknagillan. Mr. Skene was only a tenant and used it to build a house and to use it for farming. Somehow it ended up in the hands of my 3rd great grandfather Robert Skene (1781-1851 died also at Skenepak) from Inverness.  I'm still trying to figure out the relation between George and Robert (who doesn't seem to be his son). Robert had  9 children and a least two of his sons worked at the farm :James Skene (1824-1853 died at Skenepark) and Charles Cameron Skene (1821-1906 died at Skenepark).  From the 1881 Scotland census, Charles Cameron was still on the farm.  There's also a mention of his will with an estate value of £3983 (value today would be £487,486). He was married but had no child. I really don't know who bought Skenepark after his death in 1906 as there was no other Skene living related to him and his wife was already dead.   Maybe the Laing or Mc Hattie's bought it.[/img][/img][/img]
