Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes
« on: Saturday 18 October 14 09:08 BST (UK) »
So confused well maybe not to much

Searching I have found detail on an individual that's a relative, I can see how to order a birth certificate although I don't know how I determine the day \ month as the record found gives a 3 month window

Not sure If I can show this - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F185-3M7

So I assume this refers to an Index

Am I starting out on the right path ?

Regards

John B

Yes that is the index.
You can order the Cert with that information from the GRO Roscommon.
See http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=599538.0

Don't worry about any info you are missing, like the date as the quater is enough.
Often we only have the name, year, vol, and page and there is no problem.
Just be sure to get a research cert.

You do not need the exact date. What are digitised are the index books which are searchable in person at the gro centre in werburgh street in Dublin. There is one for every year and within each book names are listed in alphabeticalorder within each quarter. There are separate books for births, marriage and deaths. When one finds an entry of interest one has to fill out a request form for a photocopy of the original entry in the register. Hand it in to the gro staff and they return in minutes with the cop only the geo staff at allowed access to the actual registers. What you need to fill in on the request form is
Your name
Type of request ie birth or marriage or death
Year and quarter
Volume number and page number
Name  of person as shown in index book

At present in Dublin that costs 4 Euro.per request.

If requesting by post the process is the same except you have to send it to a geo office in roscommon which is givenon their web site.
Hope that clarifies things.

thanks, sorry more questions, when follow the link I get to

http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/1/bdm/Certificates/

There is not mention of a Research Certificate or anywhere to enter
Name
 Record Type (e.g. Birth)
 Registration District
 Year/quarter (*)
 Volume No.
 Page No.

Im guessing that im not using the right form

Thanks in advance

That one is more for present day and is pretty expensive I think.
Use this https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx.
You will need to fax or post it, see the link I posted in first reply.

Don't know about that, you can give it a go.
If your worried about adding card details you can do it by faxing the form and ringing them with the card details.
Have to wonder do you need the cert. You know the date, the mother's maiden name, there isn't much more to learn.

Fair question about do i need one - it will confirm the exact DOB and the mothers first name etc, dads occupation etc.

Thanks for all your help, I will print off a form complete and post - will let you know how it goes

My only outstanding question is about certificate type - the form does not mention Research but does mention Long so I assume I go for a long certificate
