Hope you don't mind but I split this up a bit trying to sort it out in my head, thought I would just paste it back on here as it makes it easier for me to understand  :-\

Dear all,
I have been researching Lewis Powell(b.~1779) in Llangattock(parents Charles/Mary).Lewis married Margaret Jones in Llangattock Breconshire on 12/June/1810.

On the 1841W census they live in Cwmcelyn(near Blaina,Monmouthshire)..
The family is down as:Lewis b.1781,
Margt b.1791,
Mary b.~1816,
Vison(Vavassor) b.1826,
Kesiah b.1826,
Margt b.~1827,
Thomas b.~1830,
John b.~1833,
Mary b.~1834.

There were 2 Margaret Jones born in Llangattock:
1)b.1787 parents Mary and John and 1786 parents Sarah and Armstrong.

There is also a death record for Charles Powell in Llangattock b.1739 burial 27 dec,1836..

Vavassor Powell(iron miner) married a Mary(b.Llanwrda,Carmarthenshire ~1814) and they lived in Parrott Row,Blaina from 1851-1891.Vavassor died in 1896.
Vavassor's children were Dyf(e)rig b.~1853 and Lewis b.~1855.

Vavassor had a brother Thomas(iron miner) who we think married Ann Winstone in o/n/d 1851 in Abergavenny reg(nb Blaina was in the Abergavenny reg.).

Thomas's children were on the 1881W census living in Parrott Row Blaina..
The family is down as :
Thomas Powell 50,
Ann 41,
William 17,
Lewis 13,
Thos John 11,
Mary Ann 9,
Rhoda 7.
Living next door to Thomas was
Vav*(Vavassor) aged 58,
Martha Richards(daughter)32,
Evan James(stepson and collier)47 and
Enoch James 3.

Another interesting record is in 1861W in Parrott Row for Vavassor...
Vavasor Powell 38,
Mary(wife)47,
Dyferig 8,
Lewis 6,
Daniel Richards(stepson)21(iron miner),
and 3 other Richards stepchildren:
Aaron 18(iron miner),
Miriam 16(labourer iron works) and
Martha 14(scholar).

On the 1871W census are
Vavassor 49,
Mary 57,
Dyfrig17,
Lewis 15(all Powell's)
Martha Richards(23),
Mary Jane Hobby 5.

The parents of Daniel Richards/Aaron Richards/Mary Richards/Martha Richards were Thomas and Sarah...

returning to Charles Powell(father of Lewis Powell)I found 2 marriages between Charles Powell and a Mary..
1)27 may 1772 in Caldicot(mon) (38 miles from Llangattock)between Charles Powell and Mary Harry..
2)8/june/ 1759 in Llanvetherine(13 miles from Llangattock) between charles Powell and Mary Edwards.
I also found a baptism on 7/july/1734 for a Charles Powell in Crickhowell(near Llangattock) father Thomas.

There are 2 death records for Thomas Powell in LLangattock..
1)25 may 1756..
2)26/nov/1770...

There is a baptism for a Thomas Powell on 23/nov/1717 in Llangattock with father Rees Powell...

One last record for now is that Lewis Powell b.~1779 seems to have a brother Charles b.~1777 in Llangattock(parents Charles/Mary).

What I am hoping is that someone has any details of Charles/Mary the parents of Lewis(1779) and Charles(1777) and the previous generations..

regards to all ivorglyn

Sorry I had to stop for dinner then sleep  :)

You may need to purchase this certificate to get the maiden name of Mary who 'married'  Vavassor
Births Dec 1853
POWELL    Dyfrig
Abergavenny    11a   54

Have you found Vavassor in 1851

There are baptisms at Hermon chapel on the same date in 1837 for Evan and Richard James, sons of Enoch (a  miner) and Mary

Mary Jane Hobby appears to be the daughter of Miriam, as there s a Miriam Hobby the right age (married to a John) in the area in 1871 onwards. Can;t find their marriage to find out what surname she's uses

Dear all,The Mary who married Vavasor Powell may well be Mary Evans as there is only one Mary Evans b.~1814 Llanwrda(this is her place of birth on the census records and the birth year on the census records. There is a Mary Evans and an Eleasor(probably Vavasor) Powell in a marriage record for Pontypool in j/a/s 1851.(nb parts of Bedwellty come under Pontypool.I am fairly sure that this is correct but will have to get the marriage record for Eleasor and the birth record of Dyfrig Powell.I know a number of other people will need these records..regards to all Ivorglyn
