William HAYES of Loughborough, born circa 1827

Can anyone help me....i'm stuck on the Hayes line of my family tree......my Great Great Granddad was William Hayes, who appears on the 1871 and 1881 Census living in Ruddington, Notts.

They give his place of birth as Loughborough. I cannot find him at all on the 1841, 1851 or 1861 census

His date of birth would be roughly around 1829 from his age given and he died in Basford, Notts in the March quarter of 1887 age 57. But i dont know his parents names or any siblings

Can anyone give me any help here

i can check for a baptism in Loughborough. should be in once more this week.

there is a william hayes born c1828 Basford and he is in bulwell on earlier census with wife Thomasine & Children. if this is not your william ( who i can see 1881 census b. loughborough) then the 1887 basford death might not be yours but this other william.

do you know who your william married? ( marr on 1881 not widowed btw) & when etc / children?

His partner was Sarah Whitehead, i cant find any record of them legally marrying?

On the 1871 census they are shown at Thorpe East, Ruddington, Notts and are both shown as Hayes but in 1881, still in Thorpe East, Ruddington, Notts, she is listed as Sarah Whitehead and as the housekeeper! but in 1891 she is back to being Hayes again and listed as a widow in East Thorpe Cottages, East Thorpe St, Ruddington, Notts.

William Hayes i believe is the one who died Mar quarter 1887 Age 57 in Basford, Notts

I had bought the CD online with the transcriptions on for Loughborough covering the years needed, but annoyingly the years not transcribed onto the CD were baptisms between 1827 and 1830! just the years i needed

I cannot find William Hayes on the early census before 1871 so i dont know where he was then Loughborough is the only birth place listed for him to work on

OK i least we can eliminate the William Hayes with Thomasine on the census. still not sure that the 1887 death isn't him as he lived in basford all his life.

suspect you cant find the census because of alternate spelling. will have a rummage!

I've just ordered the Death Certificate for the William Hayes in 1887 so within a few working days we should be able to say yes or no that that is him

I tried numerous spelings of Hayes but had no luck, hope you have more luck than i did

Wiliam Hayes:
No baptism on loughborough indexes July 1825 - 1832. several Hayes families having children around this time but no william. he could course been baptised later, several years after his birth.
also no entry on the Leics IGI. several on the Notts IGI.

Could also not find William 1866 & kate 1870 - children on the 1871 census under either hayes or Whitehead in Leics or Notts IGI
