Rebecca Powell - the lady vanishes
« on: Saturday 30 March 13 21:53 GMT (UK) »
Rebecca Powell b1882 Ferndale, Glamorgan daughter of William Powell and Sarah Morgans disappears off the radar after 1901 when she is a domestic servant to William Lewis and family at Freg in Llath (?) in Glynamman. Her sister Mary and brother William had both moved to Brynaman a few years earlier which is probably how she came to be there when the rest of the family stayed in Ferndale. After this I cannot find her, either as a marriage or a death. Can anyone help please?

Hi
If she married William Charles Jacobs, she is likely to be the Rebecca E Jacobs who died in Dec 1954 aged 63  (Pontypridd  8b 584). This means that she would have been born in 1891. Rebecca Powell was on the 1891 census with her parents and siblings aged 9, so would have been born in about 1881, 10 years before the Rebecca who married William C Jacobs, so I don't think this can be her. There is a Rebecca Elizabeth Powell born Mar 1891  Pontypridd  11a 576.

Freebmd has an interesting marriage in 1918

Rebecca Powell and David S Jones
Bridgend volume 11a page 1235

If you send for the certificate, specify her Father's name and occupation

Well, it took me a while, but I did eventually send for the marriage certificate of Rebecca Powell and David Samuel Jones 1918 and it looks as if it was her. Father is William Powell (deceased) coal hewer - he died in 1907.
Thanks for the helpful pointer Morganllan
