The Salford City Rreporter's Archives
« on: Thursday 09 December 04 14:55 GMT (UK) »
 ??? ??? ???

Does anyone have access to the Salford City Reporter's Archives ?

Am looking for a relative who was supposedly killed in an explosion (possibly on the Railway) circa 1902/3

 Hi, Mobo,

I don't have access but I emailed Bucks Archives to find a newspaper report on an inquest and got the information I required.

Have you tried this? I got my address from Genuki.

It's worth a go. It didn't cost me either, although I was willing to pay.

Good luck.
regards, Olly :)

Yes Olly, wrote to the Salford Local History Library - but without an exact date they were unwilling to check the archives owing to shortage of staff !!

Thanks anyway

I have a book on Salford history based on items from the Reporter. Couldn't see anything from 1902/3, but it's not comprehensive.

Don't know if either of these are worth looking at:
4 Aug 1906 - Explosion at Pendleton Colliery killed 2 men

12 Jan 1907 - Huge fire beneath Exchange Station
Byers (Salford & London)
Stringfellow (Salford & Chorley)
Holmes (Manchester & Birmingham)
Goulding/Golden (Birmingham & Lincolnshire)
Bassett (Manchester & Salford, Staffordshire)
Child (Lincolnshire)
Belshaw (Salford)
Hallsworth (Eccles & Salford)
Vernon (Bury & Chapel en le Frith)

Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
