Bertram/mcdonald
« on: Wednesday 21 March 12 21:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Does anyone have any information on my GG Grandmother Agnes(Binnie) Bertram, born Glasgow 15/6/1855, died Alva 24/10/1918. She married a Hugh McDonald, who died in Glasgow 1899. Would be interested in news of their many children and in particular  birth and death details of her mother Robina Sharp and father John Bertram. She was also married to a John Leyden who died in Glasgow around 1912.

 Thanks for help.
I already have most of that information, but can,t for the life of me find much about Robina Sharp on SP, especially her birth and death details. (found the one born in Kirkcudbbright, but she isn,t the one)
On their daughter Agnes Bertram,s birth cert it states that John and Robina where married on 29th June 1849 in Cathlaw house, near Linlithgow. However, in the Family search records it shows them being married on 23 june 1849 in Glasgow. Robina,s maiden name is down as Bertram. Its all a bit confusing.

Hi Gerry

What you could be seeing on family search is the calling of "Banns"

These were posted in the parishes of both bride and groom and no necessarily at the same time hence the 2 dates.

Have you had a look at the entry on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Have you seen this one

21/07/1822 SHARP ROBINA WILLIAM SHARP/MARGARET PORTER FR376  KIRKCUDBRIGHT /KIRKCUDBRIGHT

yours aye

Thanks Bruce,
I have found the Robina Sharp in Kirkcudbright, but can find no connection with her and John Bertram. All census data puts my Robina Sharp,s her birth place as Bathgate, Linlithgow. I can find no mention of her birth on Scottish people or anywhere else, maybe her birth was never registered. Its also strange that I can,t find death details of Robina and John Bertram. On wedding details her name is given as Robina Sharp Bertram, but I don,t think her maiden name is Bertram. One other strange point is that on her daughter Agnes Binney Bertram,s death certificate her mother,s maiden name was given as Mitchell. Its all very confusing.
Thanks for help Gerry
