Parents of Prudence Louise Kelso, born July 5, 1873

Prudence Louise Kelso was born July 5, 1873 in Dublin City, Ireland. Her father was William according to her marriage to John Beggs on Apr 6, 1900 in Ballsillan Presbyterian Church in Shankhill, Belfast, Co. Antrim, Ireland. I would like to know who her mother was. Thank you for any help.

Have you seen the actual Beggs-Kelso marriage certificate yet in order to be sure about the information (ie. to confirm Prudence's father as William and if she was a spinster or not)? It's available  via GRONI online.

I have not seen the actual marriage certificate. Perhaps I should order it.  Or would it be better to go for the birth certificate?

Your problem is that you can't find the birth certificate in the first place.

Wait a bit to see who else posts here.  If you still can't gain traction on Prudence Kelso's birth, then you may have to go back to first principles and look at source documents like the marriage certificate.  If all it does is confirm what you think, then at least you will actually know.

Likewise you might want to look for clues in Prudence Niven's 1906 death certificate, or Thomas Niven's 1922 death certificate.

BTW, the death notice in the relevant 1906 Belfast Newsletter says that that Prudence Niven was Prudence L. Niven. Another possible clue perhaps.

The Belfast street directories (which are available online) and the Valuation Revision Books 1905-1915 (again available online) pretty well confirm Thomas Niven as occupier / lessor of Demesne Terrace, 370 Oldpark Road, Belfast in the very late 1800s and early 1900s (which ties in with the address in the 1901 / 1911 census records).

The Belfast Street Directory for 1887 shows a printer Thomas Niven living at 212 Cupar Street which may well be him. Any 'hook' may get a fish.

Hi There

Reading the other thread it all seems very confusing BUT

There was a William Kelso in Dublin in the 1870's and I noted that one of his children's baptism refers to FEMALE ORPHAN HOUSE
