Hi Trevor and Ronnie,
Yes I think that I might get lost around Colchester  as have been away for some 30 years now.
Is a shame that those old buildings have gone taking so much history with them.
Changing to another area ,I am not sure if the same people still live in it, but I know the people who live in the Old  Wivenhoe Workhouse. The chap was the Mayer of Wivenhoe.I think he looked up it's history after moving into the property, as at one time it was converted into 3 cottages. It stands on the main road on the right hand side as you enter Wivenhoe.

I know this is an old thread. I was just hoping someone might know anything about the children's home/institute that was Turner road/village. In the 1970's

Would be really grateful of any Information.

Hi John.I never knew much about the old children's home/institute that was Turner road/village from the 1970's.But I knew of it's existence as I used to be a meter reader for British Gas and had to go in the grounds to read the meters.I don't live in the area any more but had a quick look on Google Maps.It looks like most of it has been demolished and rebuilt. But did see that the old main building/house is still there. It is still called Turner Village but looks like it now belong the the Essex N.H.S. Trust.Hope this helps.
Regards,
Alan.
