given the 1871 census return posted by Heywood, Hannah's birth date would be 1829. In the Kilmurry, Movidy, Kilbonane & Cannavee records there's this birth
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/22fb070224319

Aherla is about 15 miles outside Cork in the Macroom direction.

If Hannah was born in 1829 that would make her 15/16 in 1845, is that too young for a possible marriage?  :-\

edit: maybe not too young as John's age on 1871 census would agree with the birth Shane found in 1847.

....

I'd suspect that Thomas moved to Dublin for work - he is listed as 'Manager of Oil Works', so maybe he was sent by the company he worked for to manage the Dublin branch.

The strange thing about the 1911 census is that Thomas and his wife Malvina state they are married 28 years, had 13 children and 6 are still alive... and all 6 are living with them ?

There's a possible match for Malvina's death on the BMD Index. It's about the the right age (year of birth based on the census is 1862), and it's in the right registration district. More difficult to narrow down a good match for Thomas as it's quite a common name.

 Name: Malvinia Callaghan
 Registration District: Dublin North
 Event Type: Death
 Quarter and Year: Jan-Mar 1932
 Age : 68   (est year of birth : 1864)
 volume : 2 / page : 259
