I need some help to identify the wife of one Thomas Draper. The information I have at the moment is:

I've tracked Thomas through to the 1911 census, but there's no help on any of the census entries. Also, I can't find a GRO reference for Frederick's birth, or death for that matter, or any census references after 1871. So where did Frederick get to, or is Frederick an enumerator's mistake?

I BELIEVE THAT THOMAS'S WIFE WAS ELIZA DETTON NEE GETTINGS A WIDOW AT THE AGE OF 26 DETTON WAS A LOCAL NAME SO A LOCAL GIRL THEY WERE MARRIED AT ST PAULS BALSALL HEATH WORCESTERSHIRE 24TH JAN 1871 I HAVE JUST COME ACROSS THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE FORGOT THAT I HAD IT. I HAVE GONE BACK AS FAR AS 1702 WITH THE DRAPERS . I MEET A MRS DETTON A FEW YEARS AGO AND SHE PASSED ON A LOT OF INFO ON TO ME.I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU IF I CAN HELP FURTHER PLEASE CONTACT ME.

1871 census shows Thomas & Eliza with 2 children Elizabeth age 4 and Frederick age 2

Possibly they are Eliza's children from a first marriage??

Thanks for the reply. I had hoped to be able to contact Mark as we're clearly researching the same family. I've started to re-examine some of my earlier research as I suspect some of my assumptions were based more on enthusiasm rather than a forensic examination of the evidence available. Thankfully, nearly all the Shropshire PRs are online, so it's possible to examine them page by page. I'm now using them to try and make a full reconstitution of the Draper family, parish by parish.  I'd come to the same conclusion as you about the two marriages for Thomas, but I haven't yet got quite that far in the reconstitution process.

In this instance, it's a shame about the 3 posts before you can PM, but if Mark is still about, let's hope he gets an email prod about the updates to this thread and make the extra posts so we can exchange email addresses
