Barker and Woodhouse married in Upton Magna 7 May 1774
« on: Tuesday 05 February 13 00:19 GMT (UK) »
Thomas Barker and Elleanor Woodhouse were married in Upton Magna in 1774.
I am trying to find out where Elleanor came from.  So far I have found one Woodhouse family that had children around the same time as Elleanor would have been born. Namely Francis and Anne. I can see records of 4 other female siblings but no Elleanor. There is no record of any other Woodhouse family in this area that she can possibly have come from.   Unfortunately I dont know where Thomas Barker's family came from either but have to assume that they married in Upton Magna because that's where Elleanor from at this stage.  Any help appreciated.

Hi Katlady,

There is a Eleanor Woodhouse baptised at Byton, Herefordshire, on 10th Sept 1748; parents Thomas and Eleanor.

Byton is probably 40 or so miles from Upton Magna but possibly worth considering if the family was having to follow work opportunities.

Regards,
Maurice

Hello Katlady,
Barker of Haughmond, a Gentry family and an ancient family in Shropshire. Barker of Coulshurst, near
Market Drayton. Ralph de Calverhall one of the earliest with a Pedigree.
Check for Barker in Uffington, Atcham, High Ercall all neighbouring Parishes.
http://www.melocki.org.uk/salop/Uffington.html  Barker family.
Woodhouse also in Uffington, I think are also Gentry.

Note that the melocki site has a search facility so you can simply look for a name. It won't cater for spelling differences but it's a start.

Hello Alderbury,

Thank you very much, this fits in well with my John Barker who was a tailor that married the following year.
