Arthur AMOR of Bromham
« on: Sunday 30 September 12 17:56 BST (UK) »
I am failing to find my ggf's brother, Arthur Amor who was baptised in Bromham, Wilts on 26 July, 1885

He is in the 1891 Census for Bromham at home with his widowed father, Andrew Amor and then disappears

The family split after Andrew's remarriage in 1895 with several siblings leaving home, my ggf was one of those

There are WW1 records for an Arthur Amor, killed in action but these refer to a different Arthur

Does anyone know of this person?

Thanks
Rich

Hi

I have been lead to believe that the record for WWI Egypt is for an Arthur Stanley Amor, which I don't think is the correct person

He was the son of Andrew & Lucy

Thank you for looking
Rich

yes while searching through for you i came across a tree on an****y
that had originally had Arthur died Egypt with parents Andrew and Lucy but has put a note to say that the Arthur mentioned  his parents were Walter and Elizabeth amor  of hawk street chippenham

this tree shows that your arthur had 11 siblings and 4 half siblings but i expect you have that info

I have a Mary Elizabeth Amor b 30/04/1897 registered at Calne in my tree.

She married William George Freegard in 1917 and they went on to have 6 children

As I have no other information about the Amor family is it possible she is one of the 11 siblings or 4 half siblings?

Hello David

No - she wasn't a sibling

The Amor family  from Bromham/Pewsey were numerous - I have almost 600 on my tree and it's very much a work in progress

Thanks
Rich

As of Sept 2014, despite constant research I have failed to find him

I've ruled out the Arthur Amor who was killed in action in Egypt (1917) & the Arthur Amor who married Maud Chivers in Toronto, Canada in 1911 and settled in the Swindon area of Wiltshire

I can't find any suitable death or burial records in Wiltshire for him & although Amor was prone to misspelling I'm still stuck

He may have moved out of the Bromham area by the 1901 Census (as did his brother, my ggf) due to the 'wicked stepmother syndrome' following his father's remarriage

If anyone can proffer any advice, I would welcome where to go next - or should I just give up after such a long time?
