McElligott family
« on: Friday 02 March 07 13:53 GMT (UK) »
Looking for someone in Ireland that would have a family tree on McElligott's.

My ggreatgrandfather Michael McElligott born about 1833 in Ireland. Any info could help me to advance in Ireland research.  Michael McElligott was in England in 1863. His wife also from Ireland was Mary (Leahy) McElligott. Sons were John (1863) James (1873) Robert (1875) and daughter Louisa Irene (1877) Apparently two others sons died in early age between 1863 and 1873.

Thanks

Alain

He seems to have been a soldier so is there any way you could find him through Army records perhaps?
best wishes

Hi Alain,
Don't know if it helps in the slighest but I was recently looking Dalton in Glin, Limerick and came across McElligotts there about that time. Try googling McElligott Glin Limerick.

You never know.

good luck

Thanks to both of you (Heywood and Tony) for your replies. What a struggle to find the military ID. But I will not let go until I find it. You people on rootschat are fantastic. Congratulations to all. I feel that I am not along trying to find my roots.

Thanks again to all

Alain McElligott

Hello Alain,

Would James J. McElligott, Secretary General of the Irish Department of Finance
(An Roinn Airgeadais) from September 1927 to March 1953, be a relation? http://finance.irlgov.ie/viewtxt.asp?DocID=932&CatID=23

My Great grandfather, Patrick Hickey (1859-1927) born Cloonaman, Ballylongford, died Brooklyn, NY. His parents were Edmond Hickey and Hannah Curnane, His grandparents were Patrick Hickey and Johanna McElligott. At the time of his emigration abt 1880 going to USA at the same time to join their adult children already in NYC were John McElligott and his wife Elizabeth Scanlon of Cloonamaan. I suspect John and Elizabeth were a grand uncle and aunt to Patrick.
