If he married in 1868 (as in your initial post) then it's likely him in 1861 census but now you say marriage was 1855 which means he had to have been born much earlier.

All I know is that Thomas Bubridge married Mary Ann Best on the 19th March 1855 in North Shields , he was a seaman at that time. His marriage certificate states that his father was John Burbridge who is a hatter. It doesn't state he is deceased so I assume his alive.

Actually you cannot assume father is alive- often certificate does not specify so there's no way of being sure.

Sorry I am getting myself confused. He did marry is 1868. Thomas seems to have been born circa 1847 from the recent census' and his death cert. so I assume that his mother is not Margaret Flaherty nee Hussey.

On the entry it appears that both John and Margaret are widowers which points to the fact Thomas may have been born to John's first wife. I think  ???

I have never found any children named Rose unfortunately. I am wondering whether John's first wife was the mother of Thomas then she died and he remarried Margaret and had Georgiana in 1852.

Problem is that I need to know who John's first wife was and can't seem to find a marriage prior to Margaret. They are both widowers at marriage in 1849 but can't find either of their previous marriages.
