GORDON, Bartholomew & Farrell
« on: Sunday 27 January 13 14:50 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to trace ancestors of Farrell Gordon, an Irish dock labourer who died age "40" in Glasgow in May 1856, parents Bartholomew Gordon, farmer (deceased) and Bridget Gordon (m.s. Rooney) deceased. Nothing in the Scottish records I have seen so far suggest where in Ireland Farrell was born, but name searches come up with hits in Leitrim, mostly Manorhamilton.
The 1851 census at High St, Paisley, Renfrewshire:
Farrel Gordon, head, 40, dock labourer b. Ireland
Bridget Gordon, wife, 39, b.Ireland [should be Bridget Keenan according to her daughter Bridget's death cert, or Bridget Rooney according to the same daughter's marriage cert]
Bartley Gordon, son, 19, ag. lab., b. Ireland [also known as Bartholomew, and Barclay on some censuses]
Pat Gordon, son, 17, ag. lab., b. Ireland
Mary Gordon, daur, 15, idle, b. Ireland
Bridget Gordon, daur, 13, idle, b. Ireland
Denis Gordon, son, 10, not at school, b. Ireland
Martin Gordon, 8, not at school, b. Ireland
Ann Gordon, daur, 5, b. Ireland
Farrel Gordon, son, 2, b. Ireland
Pat Gordon, lodger, 45, dock labourer, b. Ireland

Thanks in advance
All Cabrach, Fyvie, Methlick in Aberdeenshire
Mee, Merrin, Stevenson in Notts Derby

While researching my family tree recently, most of my Gordons were born in Enniskillen. Then i came upon,Owen Gordon who turned out to be my G.G.G.Grandfather on my Mothers side.He was born in 1794 in Leitrim,Died in Enniskillen in 1880.Might be only a coincidence but in nearly every generation since then there is a Bartley or Bartholomew.
