What certificate would show a maiden name?
« on: Sunday 16 March 14 15:36 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Sorry if this has been asked before- I did a quick search and couldn't find an answer.

I am looking for the maiden name of a Sarah Robinson. In 1901 census she lived in Donegal Place, Londonderry. Born around 1837, died 1906. I can't find a marriage for her and William Robinson. I think I know her maiden name but need to confirm it.

From what I remember, it won't be on her death cert? I tried her son's marriage but it is a parish record and not on it.

Thank you!

If the birth was before civil registration then, if you know the place of his birth, an RC baptism may show the mother's maiden name.
McDonough, Oliver, McLoughlin, O'Brien, Cuthbert, Keegan, Quirk(e), O'Malley, McGuirk (Ireland)

Hi Rosie,

Her son was born in 1860-1861 so just before civil registration started.

ETA Just saw your post DudleyWinchurch. No they were not RC.

I guess there is no way to know.

I just noticed there is a younger brother still at home born around 1873. Would his birth cert have her maiden name?

I meant to say there are a few William Robinson marriages pre 1861 on Ancestry with Sarahs as potential wives, if your certain of her maiden name one of them might be right!
